October 16-22 is national ADHD awareness week! LifeManagement Center has been helping children and adults with learning and attention challenges, such as ADHD, since 1995.
Though awareness about ADHD has increased since the 1990's, there are still many pervasive myths about ADHD and other attention challenges.
ADDitude Magazine's 7 Myths About ADHD...Debunked! article challenges the following popular misconceptions about ADHD:
Myth #1: ADHD isn't a real medical disorder
Myth #2: Children who are given special accommodations because of their ADHD are getting an unfair advantage
Myth #3: Children with ADHD eventually outgrow their condition
Myth #4: ADHD affects only boys
Myth #5: ADHD is the result of bad parenting
MYTH #6: Children who take ADHD medication are more likely to abuse drugs when they become teenagers.
Myth #7: People who have ADHD are stupid or lazy - they never amount to anything
